Walk to End Alzheimer’s 2015
It was an honor to be part of the Walnut Creek to Walk to End Alzheimer’s yesterday with the Drop Daddies.
Teresa’s 40th Birthday gig
Good times last night with the Drop Daddies! Such a fun party.
During our sunset sound check, the HD500X wah pedal freaked out again, same as I reported back in May at our last outdoor gig. So now I’ve confirmed that sunlight at just the wrong angle can definitely interfere with the optical sensor of the HD500X wah pedal. 🙁 I’ll need to figure out a workaround for this, as we play a number of outdoor gigs each year!
Blackhawk Auto Museum Gig
Played a gig with the Drop Daddies at the Blackhawk Auto Museum last night, surrounded by priceless cars. Fun!
HD500X Train Wreck at Sunny Gig
So, I had my first train-wreck on stage with the HD500X. This was at the Twin Creeks Spring Carnival, so not exactly a high-pressure situation with a huge crowd, but still…
The first song in the set was Lonely Boy, in which I use a HD500X patch with the expression pedal as a pitch dive (heel original pitch, toe dive-bomb). More
New Stage Rig
Played a Christmas party on Friday night with the Drop Daddies and it was a blast!
My new stage setup worked out great. All that hard work paid off! The Blackstar Stage 60 sounded righteous, and the HD500X pedal board was perfect.
Pedal Board Update– Line 6 HD500X
In my last pedal board update back in May, I talked about having added a Zoom G3X and loop switcher to my pedal board. I was frustrated that I still need a giant pedal board to accommodate my preferred overdrive, distortion and wah pedals, and the switcher to switch amp channels on my AC15 and to work around the noisy G3X’s lack of true bypass. April and the Summer Music Project Gig

It’s been a super busy month at work, and what free time I had was filled with preparing for a gig with my band, The Summer Music Project.
The set list ranged from some classic rock, right up to the present:
- Shine On – Peter Frampton
- Get Back – Beatles
- Penny On The Train Track – Ben Kweller
- Taste of Danger – Jonatha Brooke
- Stop – Joe Henry
- Wonderwall – Oasis
- Animal – Neon Trees
- Cough Syrup – Young the Giant
- Perfect Situation – Weezer
- I’m Sorry – Charles Besocke (original)
- Don’t Take It Easy – Laura Whitmore (original)
- The Only Exception – Paramore
- Help Me (She’s Out of Her Mind) – Stereophonics
- Level – Raconteurs
- Revelry – Kings of Leon
- Chocolate – Snow Patrol
- Loving Cup – Rolling Stones
- Had Me A Real Good Time – The Faces
I’m playing lead guitar on all of these, and some definitely push the limits of my abilities- so it’s been a great challenge. Also, and rather more nerve-wrackingly, I sing on most of the songs- mostly harmony with our lead singer Laura Whitmore, but I also had to sing lead parts on a couple songs. I’ve never been thrilled with the timbre and range of my voice, so I spent a lot of time working on the songs. As with anything, it’s definitely true that the more you practice, the better you get, but I have a looooong way to go. I’ll be writing more about voice training in another post.
