Alternative Pedal Enclosures from Rixen
In pedal building, we almost exclusively see the Hammond-style diecast aluminum enclosures. You know their names- the ubiquitous 1590B (aka 1290NS) and its plus-size cousin the 125B. Then there’s the larger 1590BB, and the tiny and temperamental 1590A. What these all have in common is the simple generic rectangular shape.
But what if you’re a fan of the spring-loaded foot-pedal enclosures made famous by the BOSS and Ibanez pedals?
Typically, the only way for DIY pedal builders to achieve that look was to buy an old pedal and gut it- but then you’re stuck with the original pedal’s drilling layout.
Now there’s a new option- I just came across these new enclosures from Rixen Pedals.
The Rixen enclosures are heavy duty 3mm thick aluminum, molded in the familiar BOSS style.
The kit comes with a 4PDT foot switch with gold-plated contacts, heavy duty rubber feet and non-slip foot-pad, and the necessary clip and hinge pins.
Rixen also offers optional priming, powder coating and drilling.
I’m looking forward to trying out this kit.

Looks great, did you actually order one? Seems like a reasonable price, but the shipping from NZ to EU could be horrible.

Yes, I’ve got one on the way to me. The shipping was reasonable- 11.00 euros ($USD 14.28) to ship by air to anywhere worldwide. Should arrive in about a week.
I’ll post again about it when I do a pedal build with it.

These are excellent enclosures. We’ve used them for several different pedal builds and they are extremely versatile and great looking.
I’d recommend anyone interested in building boutique pedals that sell for hundreds to get into these enclosures instead of the generic Hammond box.

These enclosures are no longer in production. The local foundry that did the diecasting for me went out of business effectively ending any economic means of production.
Thank you to anyone who supported this endeavor by purchasing an enclosure. You now have a rare piece of merchandise.

Indeed- although it’s definitely a niche. It was probably more a labor of love than a big business for Julian at Rixen.
