Pulsar with Soft Synths

How can I use a software synth with Pulsar?

- you must prepare pulsar before running the soft synth program.
- launch pulsar
- create a DirectSound source device
- this source will correspond to the output of your softsynth so wire it to your mixer or to the pulsar analog outputs, or whatever you want

- now launch your soft synth (e.g. rebirth 2.0)
- go to the audio preferences (e.g. in rebirth, Edit/Preferences menu) - it'll probably show that the chosen audio device is Pulsar Play 1 - this is the less efficient windows MME driver, corresponding to the Wave Source 1 device in Pular.
- select the audio device: Pulsar/Scope DirectSound driver if you ran the soft synth before creating the DirectSound Source in Pulsar then this Pulsar DirectSound option won't be available. you'll have to restart the soft synth program.

now you should be able to play the soft synth, thru pulsar.

if your soft synth doesn't support DirectSound, you can just configure it to use Pulsar Play 1 as the audio device, and use the Wave Source 1 in Pulsar. the latency will be greater than DirectSound, but it should work.

Can I record the soft synth into Cubase?

Yes. One of the coolest things about pulsar is how easy it is to route (almost) anything to anything.

Iin your pulsar project, you'd create a DirectSound source and an Asio Dest, and wire them together. (you could add some fx or whatever inbetween if you wish)

Then, set up Generator/Rebirth/etc/etc to output to the Pulsar DirectSound device. Cubase receives its input from the Pulsar ASIO device. voila!
